Portugal is one of the sunniest and friendliest summer destinations in Europe.

With countless unspoiled natural resources to explore, it can be a paradise, if you know where to go and what to look for.

For the naturist, thought, it is a different reality from what you are used to:
in fact, with so many wonderful beaches, luxurious woods, natural spas and green surroundings to leisure by, there are almost no naturist resorts in Portugal, aimed at the visiting tourist.

There is only one Naturist Camping fully equipped, another is only partially naturist and yet another is far away and about to close, but that’s all... No hotels, health clubs, pools, villas or public places are organized for the naturist.

Yet, naturism is very widely spread in our country, with over half a century of public practice.

Thousands of Portuguese like to go naked while dwelling into nature, whether it is on the beach, by a lagoon or on riverbanks, either camping or simply spending a relaxed weekend. And they do so, often and happily.

The Portuguese people, as well as our law, are very tolerant towards nudity.

We have six official naturist beaches, all South of River Tagus, two near Lisbon, two in Alentejo and two others in Algarve. Aside from these, nudism is practiced on a regular (and traditional) basis in many other public beaches. Some of the preferred for the Portuguese Naturist are not even officially recognized; still, they are crowded with naked families and groups, in a familiar and friendly way.

Here the law does not forbid nudity, it specifies that there is public offense when (and only when) a citizen who feels morally offended files a complaint about it, which, of course, nobody ever does.

So, common sense is used and it is accepted, as simply as this: you should not go naked on a textile beach where everyday uses clothes and you can take off yours where someone else is doing the same.

Topless, though, is usual everywhere, public beaches, swimming pools, etc.

Another habit of the Portuguese is to respect everyone’s feelings towards nakedness, which means that you will find people with and without clothes on, perfectly mixed wherever naturists gather for a day on the outside.

In a word, Portugal is a warm and friendly place for naturism, but where you practice it on your own, following your instincts within good sense, with no help or support from established organizations aimed at sun lovers.

Nevertheless, if you decide to come, I promise you will not regret it!
